When you are asked to do a case study, you are given detailed information about a sample client’s health issues and are instructed to analyze the data. Case studies help you develop a global view of the many elements that make up a client’s health problems and shape the health care decisions you make for the client. In a case study, you might
interpret laboratory results
evaluate data from a chart that a nurse on the previous shift has completed
prioritize the client’s medical needs
determine the necessary guidelines for carrying out any required procedures (such as wound care)
consider—with sensitivity—how the client’s personal history, including language and cultural background, might inform how you interact with the client, answer questions, and respond to his or her needs
