Revising
Revising is rarely a one-step process. Usually you will approach it in stages: global matters first, then sentence matters, and then proofreading.
- Global revisions: focus, purpose, organization, content, and overall strategy
- Sentence-level editing: sentence structure, word choice, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics
- Proofreading: final check for misspellings, typographical errors, and so on
Sometimes you will add a step for reviewers—peer reviewers, a writing center tutor, a friend.
