Page formatting

When you choose a layout and format a page, you divide it into areas occupied by certain kinds of identifying information. You also plan deliberately to leave some areas of a page open, as white space.

Documents should have ample margins, with pages numbered. Headers and footers can display information about the author, a short title, a date, or a filename. Borders and rules or color can be used to set off special information or divide a document into parts.
