Checking for dangling modifiers

Checking for dangling modifiers

Figure. Flowchart. Checking for dangling modifiers. The flowchart shows the process of checking whether a sentence contains a dangling modifier. The flowchart starts with the question “Does an opening phrase suggest an action without naming the actor?” If no, then the sentence does not have a dangling modifier. If yes, the next question is “Does the subject of the sentence name the actor?” If yes, there is no problem. If no, the sentence contains a dangling modifier and must be revised.
