Absolute phrases

An absolute phrase modifies a whole clause or sentence, not just one word. It consists of a noun or noun equivalent usually followed by a participial phrase.

Example sentence: His words dipped in honey, the senator mesmerized the crowd. Explanation: The absolute phrase is His words dipped in honey. It consists of the noun phrase Hi words followed by the participle dipped in honey.
