Shortcuts to avoid in online classes
All capital letters |
Some people try to save time and eliminate typos by writing with the caps lock key engaged. However, using all capital letters can make your writing appear angry or offensive, and some people find text in all capitals hard to read. |
All lowercase letters |
Like sentences in all capital letters, sentences that are written with only lowercase letters can be difficult for readers to process. These sentences can also give the impression that the writer is not taking readers or the assignment seriously. |
Texting language |
Short forms like b4 for before or IMO for in my opinion might confuse readers who aren’t familiar with them. These forms are too casual for most course discussions and all formal assignments. |
Omitted punctuation |
Sentences that lack punctuation are difficult to understand. Even if your punctuation isn’t perfect, you should at least attempt to use standard conventions. |
