Activity 21: Understanding remixing in multimodal compositions

Popular examples of remixes are multimodal compositions in which composers rearrange the events in movie trailers to create a different, alternative tone or meaning. If you search the Web for “remixed” or “recut” movie trailers, you may find one that positions The Hunger Games as a comedy and Twilight as a creepy stalker film. Find two or three different remixed movie trailers. Identify what elements are probably “original” to the trailer, and then identify what elements have been remixed, added, or changed. What effect does the remix have? Why?
