Editing your own writing for wordiness

    Open your draft of a current paper or writing project. Choose one paragraph that needs editing for wordiness. If you are not sure which paragraph to work with, ask your instructor, a writing center tutor, or a classmate to help you identify one.
  2. If possible, get a word count for the paragraph in your word processing program.
  3. Copy and paste the paragraph in the following text box. Add the word count in parentheses at the end.
