Explain

  • When you use a quotation from one source that you have found in another source (a secondary source), cite whatever information is available about the original source of the quotation, including the page number(s) for the quotation in the original source.
  • In the note, use the words “quoted in” before the author of the secondary source, the title, and publication information. Add the page number on which the citation appears in the secondary source.
  • In the example, author John Matteson quotes the words of another author, Thomas Wentworth Higginson. Matteson’s book includes a note with information about the Higginson source.
