Analyzing an Extended Definition

Locate an extended definition in one of your textbooks, in a journal article, or on a website. In a memo to your instructor, describe the techniques the author uses to define the term. Then evaluate the effectiveness of these techniques. Submit a photocopy or printout of the definition along with your assignment. (See Chapter 9 for a discussion of memos.)
