Ch. 4: Additional Case 1

Writing an Information Booklet

This case is best for groups.

Background

The study-abroad office at your college or university wishes to issue an information booklet about each of the countries in which students from your school study.

Your Assignment

To complete this assignment, perform the following tasks:

  1. Study Chapter 4 of your text.

  2. As a group, choose one country to research.

  3. Begin by studying the Central Intelligence Agency’s World Factbook entry about the country and any materials that your school’s study-abroad office can provide. One group member might concentrate on the country itself: the land, the culture, and the language. Another might concentrate on the city in which the foreign college or university is located. A third might focus on the college or university itself: its policies, its student makeup, its opportunities, its expectations for students, and so forth. Do not overlook websites in researching the country, the city, and the school. (Be sure to record bibliographic information as you work, so that you can cite your sources properly.)

  4. Compile your findings in a 2,000-word guide for students preparing to study in the country you selected. Include proper documentation of your sources. (See Appendix: Reference Handbook, Part A for advice on taking notes and guidance on documenting sources.)
