When God Talks Back: Understanding the American Evangelical Relationship with God [audio interview]

Tanya Marie Luhrmann (b. 1959) is the Watkins University Professor in the Stanford University Anthropology Department. As stated on her Stanford faculty page, she studies how “ideas held in the mind come to seem externally real to people.” Among her publications are the books When God Talks Back: Understanding the American Evangelical Relationship with Prayer (2012) and Persuasions of the Witch’s Craft (1989). Luhrmann speaks in this radio interview about how evangelicals experience a relationship with God in the brain. The interview appeared on The Brian Lehrer Show, which was broadcast on National Public Radio. The interviewer is Kurt Andersen, sitting in for Brian Lehrer. Andersen is the host of Studio 360, also broadcast on NPR.
