Robin is the only child of fairly wealthy parents. She always has the latest in clothes, shoes, and other attire. Robin has the nicest bedroom and the best of everything. Heather and the other girls in her peer group come from middle- and working-class backgrounds, and several of the girls share their bedrooms with a sibling.

Robin is smart. So are Heather, Tiffany, Jocelyn, and Morgana, the other girls in her peer group. That is one reason that they hang out together. They play challenging games such as the 24 Game, and they all like to read.

Heather likes Robin but feels inferior to her. Even when Heather’s test scores come back higher than Robin's—which is often—Heather doesn't believe that she is as smart as Robin.
