Everybody Contributes A large four-generation family such as this one helps meet the human need for love and belonging, the middle level of Maslow’s hierarchy. When social scientists trace who contributes what to whom, the results show that everyone does their part but the flow is more down than up: Grandparents give more money and advice to younger generations than vice versa.
