Still at Work Roger Lesch (a) is shown here at age 65, the age when police in Rockport, Massachusetts must retire. Two decades earlier Lesch started protecting the elderly from scams and safeguarding those who wandered. He turned down a promotion which would have halted his senior work. Neither he nor anyone else wanted him to quit, so Rockport appointed him “special officer for elder affairs,” which allowed him to continue working in uniform. Eric Headley (b), here age 74, drives a van for his job in London, He can no longer be forced to quit: A 2011 English law forbade mandatory retirement.
