As witnessed by the popularity of thriller novels, detective shows, grisly movies, and other representations of criminals in entertainment and media, it seems that Americans are fascinated by violent crime and criminals, particularly murderers. Especially serial killers. Whether they are making headline news, captivating us in works of fiction, or scaring us on the big screen, we can’t seem to get enough of them. This cluster looks at some serial murderers as a group (FBI report and Von Drehle argument), and then at two particular killers (Montaldo profiles and Commonwealth of Massachusetts indictment).
