Although Asch varied the number of people in each group, all but one of the participants were accomplices of the experimenter. The real participant was always seated in the last position, so that he or she would make a judgment after most of the accomplices had already responded. Asch's accomplices had been instructed to make a judgment that was clearly wrong on certain trials. Would the real participant make the correct judgment anyway or would that person "go along with the group" and call out the wrong answer due to normative social influence?

On the next screen you'll view a simulation of Asch's experiment. As you watch, think about what you would have done in this situation.
