Questions to Keep in Mind

  1. What’s the “vibe” — the aesthetic look or feeling — you get from the other websites Brad gave you to look at or from other indie labels you can find? How do those sites compare to major recording label sites? What color palettes and typography do they use?
  2. Who do you think the audience for this site will be? What things interest them? What does Brad think the tagline “Independent. Authentic. Mostly.” means to people?
  3. Do the raw materials he gave you suggest a visual approach? Do the bands seem like gritty acts that might be served best by a similarly gritty, slightly dirty, post-grunge look? Or do they seem like pop groups that match up well with a clean, simple approach?
  4. What color scheme might work best for the overall site? If you had to pick two or three colors to drive the site (backgrounds, text, graphic buttons, or other elements), what will they be?
  5. What will your typographic approach be? What fonts will match the aesthetic of the site (and, by extension, the audience and customers)?
  6. What categories of textual elements will you need? Body text? How many levels of headings? How can you make sure these are consistent from one page to another?
  7. What will the mix of image to text to background be on the site? Will you need to revise or rewrite the images or the text?
