Rising and Setting of Stars at Middle North Latitudes Unlike the motion of the stars at the poles (see Figure 1-10), the stars at all other latitudes do change angle above the ground (that is, change astronomical “altitude”) throughout the night. This time-lapse photograph shows stars setting. The latitude determines the angle at which the stars rise and set.
