The Greenhouse Effect in a Car The glass windows in this car allow visible light to enter but prevent the infrared radiation released by the car’s interior from escaping. The infrared radiation, therefore, heats the air in the car to a higher temperature than the outside air. This effect is used to advantage in greenhouses and is why it is called the greenhouse effect.
