Figure 10.4 Ancient urban dwelling. A group of archaeologists uncovers the interior of a small home in the ancient Anatolian city of Çatalhöyük, revealing a living room and small bedrooms. Excavations have revealed that people kept their homes scrupulously clean as very little trash has been uncovered. Occupants entered and exited their homes through holes in the roof. Since there was no space between houses, people got from house to house by walking on the rooftops as if they were streets. (Images & Stories/Alamy.)
