Graphing Tutorial: Bar Graphs Walkthrough

Bar graphs are used when the independent variable you are testing is represented by discrete categories (e.g. blue, red, yellow; or small, medium, large) rather than a numerical sequence (e.g. 1,2,3,4…etc.).

  1. Click the green buttons on the screen to set the title for your graph and label the y- and the x-axes.
  2. Once you’ve entered your title and labeled the axes, a coordinate plane appears. Set the minimum and the maximum value for the y-axis. The minimum has to be greater than or equal to 0 and the maximum has to be less than or equal to 11000. No need to fill in the x axis since it is a bar graph.
  3. After you have set the minimum and the maximum values for y-axis, two entry boxes appear for you to add the titles for the categories and values to your bar chart.
  4. For "Category title", add the name for the category.
  5. For "Value", add a positive number within the range between the minimum and the maximum values for y-axis that you have set.
  6. Data should be entered without commas.
  7. When you have finished entering the data, click Done.
