JIM STACEY: Rick Dalton?

RICK DALTON: You bet.

JIM STACEY: Jim Stacey. This is my show. Welcome aboard. We're real glad to have a pro like you playing the heavy on the pilot. Man, I got to tell you, I came damn close to being in The 14 Fists of McClusky.

RICK DALTON: No kidding.

JIM STACEY: Yeah.

RICK DALTON: Well, I tell you I just got my part for sheer luck. Up until two weeks before shooting, Fabian was in the part. Then he breaks his shoulder doing a Virginian. That's how I got it.

JIM STACEY: Hey, Rick, I got to ask you something I heard about. Was it true you almost got the McQueen part in The Great Escape?

POSEN: Hilts isn't it?

RICK DALTON: Captain Hilts actually.

POSEN: 17 escape attempts?

RICK DALTON: 18.

Never had an audition. Never had a meeting. Never met John Sturges. So, no, I don't think you could say I-- I almost got the part.

POSEN: Tunnel man? Engineer?

RICK DALTON: Flyer.

POSEN: I suppose what's called in American army a hotshot pilot.

RICK DALTON: But the story goes for a brief moment, McQueen almost passed on the movie, and during that brief moment, I apparently was on the list of four.

POSEN: You have other plans?

RICK DALTON: I haven't seen Berlin yet from the ground or from the air, and I plan on doing both before the war's over.

JIM STACEY: You and who?

RICK DALTON: Me and the three Georges.

JIM STACEY: Which three Georges?

RICK DALTON: Peppard, Maharis, and Chakiris.

JIM STACEY: Oh, man.

RICK DALTON: Yeah.

JIM STACEY: That's gotta hurt.

RICK DALTON: Yeah, well, I didn't get it. McQueen did it. And frankly, I never had a chance.

POSEN: 10 days isolation, Hilts.

RICK DALTON: Captain Hilts.

POSEN: 20 days.

RICK DALTON: Right.

Oh, you'll still be here when I get out.

POSEN: Cooler.
