Civility is a heated topic on many college campuses today. The term civility refers to behavior between persons and groups that conforms to some agreed-upon social norm. When college students (or, for that matter, college professors) are late to class, it demonstrates an unspoken sense of disrespect for others. In our culture, punctuality is not only a virtue, it is expected.
So what other behaviors are considered uncivilized for a college classroom? Take a moment to discuss this with a few of your classmates, and write down a list of behaviors that break the rules of politeness. We will use these later.
