  • Remember that managing stress is a key college success strategy. College, by its very demanding nature, both increases stress and can teach you how to reduce it.
  • Get in touch with your own stress levels and sources. Heightened awareness is the first step in learning how to manage and reduce stress.
  • Consider the powerful connections between things you control through your decisions. Make good decisions concerning diet, exercise, sleep, and your stress levels.
  • Recognize that college students are at especially high risk of mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Get help from your counseling center if you are not feeling the way you would like to feel.
  • Practice good sexual health decision making. Make wise choices to protect yourself against sexually transmitted infections, develop and maintain respectful relationships, and avoid unplanned pregnancies.
  • Practice moderation. Successful college students can still have a good time in college and not let alcohol use interfere with their academic success or personal health. Contrary to prevalent stereotypes, it is not the norm for students to abuse alcohol.
  • Don’t get hooked! Many young adults acquire what become lifetime behaviors during their college years. It would be a shame if one of the consequences of your college experience were addiction to tobacco, with its long-term negative expense and health effects.
  • Avoid experimenting with dangerous behaviors. Keep thinking about your purpose(s) for being in college and for life and try to make decisions about your own choices accordingly.
