The 2013 comedy Identity Thief tells the story of an identity theft victim, played by Jason Bateman, who confronts the thief, played by Melissa McCarthy. In the movie, the victim answers questions about vital personal information in a phone call that he did not initiate—a big no-no—and his life is turned upside down. If identity theft happens to you, it’s not so funny.
