APPLY WHAT YOU'VE LEARNED

7

Now that you have read and discussed this chapter, consider how you can apply what you have learned to your academic life and your personal life. The following prompts will help you reflect on the chapter material and how you can use it both now and in the future.

  1. What is your least engaging class—the one in which the instructor does not encourage you to engage in active learning? Think of some ways you could make this class more engaging, such as asking questions or doing extra reading on the class material. Make a list of your ideas and share it with your college success instructor. He or she might have other ideas to suggest to you.
  1. This chapter makes the point that it is easier to learn and remember new material when you can connect it to something you already know or have experienced. Which of your first-year classes connects most directly to something you learned in the past or something that happened to you? Write a brief paper in which you describe these connections.
