In this chapter, you saw that self-exploration can help you identify possible career options. Now it’s time to go one step further. Complete this activity to learn more about careers that fit your interests and to visualize what it would be like to pursue one of these occupations.

This activity may be saved and completed at a later time. Please note that you cannot change your answers after you submit them.
Take the O*NET Interest Profiler inventory to learn more about what interests you in a career. To do so, click O*NET Interest Profiler at My Next Move. Will be opened in a new tab.here or search online for “My Next Move Interest Profiler.” Based on the results you received from the Interest Profiler, what interest type(s) are a good fit for you? Check all that apply.
Scroll through the list of careers that the O*NET Interest Profiler recommends based on your interests and the level of education you plan to pursue (the Job Zone). Select two of the suggested careers that sound most interesting to you, and use the information provided by the O*NET to learn more about these options.
Once you’ve learned more about both of these career possibilities, respond to the prompts below. An example is provided.
EXAMPLE: The career from this list that most interests me is a high school teacher. This career interests me most because it involves working with teens, helps people, and pays a decent living wage.
When you have filled in all of the blanks, the “Submit” button will appear. When you are satisfied with all of your responses, select the “Submit” button to send your responses to your instructor. (Note: You will not be able to change your responses after you select “Submit.”)
Your Answer
Now, use what you’ve just learned to begin telling your career story. Think of your career story as a concise way to explain your career goals and plans to another person, such as a potential employer. You may not know exactly what career path you want to pursue just yet, and that’s OK. The important thing is that you’re thinking more concretely about your options.
Let’s practice visualizing how it would feel to pursue the career you selected on the previous slide. Imagine that you are now working in your chosen career field. Then answer the questions below.
When you have filled in all of the blanks, the “Submit” button will appear. When you are satisfied with all of your responses, select the “Submit” button to send your responses to your instructor. (Note: You will not be able to change your responses after you select “Submit.”)
