Activity Objective:

In this chapter, you learned how important it is to be able to find, interpret, and use information successfully. Working with information is a skill that you will use far beyond the classroom. In fact, you can use your research abilities to learn more about companies or organizations you may wish to work for, and then use the information you’ve gathered to impress potential employers during a job interview. Complete this activity to begin your research.

Let’s get started! Click the forward and backward arrows to navigate through the slides. You may also click the above outline button to skip to certain slides.

This activity may be saved and completed at a later time. Please note that you cannot change your answers after you submit them.

Research

Take the following steps:

  • Identify the names of two companies/organizations you might want to work for in the future, then locate their websites through an online search.
  • Once you have reached the home pages of your chosen companies/organizations, look for information about them. Click on menu items that provide background information (“About,” “About Us,” “Who We Are”), which are usually located at the top or bottom of the home page.
  • Read critically to find information that can help you get to know these companies/organizations—for example, their history, where they are located, how they describe what they do, what they value, who leads them, and any other information you find useful. Then select one of the companies/organizations you researched and complete the prompts below. An example is provided.

EXAMPLE: DXC Technology is a company that provides information technology services to other companies. It is located all over the world in over seventy countries. The company appears to value its clients and leadership in the field, maintaining a high standard of excellence, and getting results.
