Aeolian particle movement. (A) Sediments moved by wind are transported along the surface through traction and saltation and they are suspended in the air as dust. Only the lightest particles of clay and silt remain suspended in the air. (B) On March 25, 2011, this dust storm plunged Kuwait City into total darkness. (C) One day later, on March 26, 2011, NASA’s satellite Terra captured the same dust storm as it moved south across the Arabian Peninsula.
