Daniel Shays This sketch is the only eighteenth-century illustration in existence of Daniel Shays (on the left in this detail). In it he stands with Jacob Shattuck, another antigovernment leader. The picture appeared in a pro-Constitution Boston almanac, which ridiculed the two rebels by showing them in fancy uniforms and holding swords, in contrast to what would have been their usual homespun appearance.
