Battle of New Orleans On January 8, 1815, General Andrew Jackson’s troops launched grapeshot and canister bombs against British forces in New Orleans in this final battle of the War of 1812. Jackson’s troops included Indian allies, backcountry immigrants, and French-speaking black soldiers.
