The Mandala Carl Jung (1974) believed that the mandala was the archetypal symbol of the self and psychic wholeness. Mandala images are found in cultures throughout the world. Shown here are three examples from cultures separated by both time and distance: a reconstructed Aztec solar calendar from Mexico (left); a 14th-century rose window from a cathedral in the United Kingdom (center); and the centuries-old image of the Bhavacakra, or Buddhist Wheel of Life, from Tibet (right).
