A Century of Influence One indicator of Freud’s influence is his continuing presence in popular culture. He appeared on the cover of Time magazine four different times, most recently in 1999 as part of a special issue commemorating the 100 greatest scientists and thinkers of the twentieth century. Freud has also been featured as a character in dozens of films and even television shows—from Saturday Night Live to Star Trek. Recently, Viggo Mortenson (above) played Sigmund Freud as a character in the movie A Dangerous Method, about the relationship between Freud, Jung, and a young patient, Sabine Spielrien, played by Kiera Knightley.
