Prescribing Psychologist Elaine LeVine New Mexico psychologist Elaine LeVine (2007) was one of the first psychologists to acquire prescription privileges in the United States. When New Mexico passed the legislation making licensed psychologists eligible for prescription privileges, a key goal was to increase rural access to mental health care. Like other prescribing psychologists, Dr. LeVine uses the therapeutic relationship she builds with patients to help educate and involve them in treatment decisions about the medications she prescribes.
