Neuroscientists have become increasingly aware of the importance of the brain’s network connections (Seung, 2012). And, faulty network connections have been implicated in several brain disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, and autism (Braskie & others, 2011; Lynall & others, 2010). It may be years before the findings of the Connectome Project yield practical applications, but even preliminary images, like the one shown here, reveal the dynamic intricacy of the most complex object in the universe—the human brain.
