Rave Culture All-night dance parties, called raves, originated in Great Britain and quickly spread to other European countries and to the United States. Raves may draw anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand people or more. Highly caffeinated “energy drinks,” amphetamines, methamphetamine, and other stimulants may be consumed to maintain the energy needed to dance all night. Rave culture also helped popularize the use of ecstasy, a synthetic drug.
