Your Turn

Your Turn

Advice about revising can sound abstract, but the process is a real one you engage in regularly — or should. In a discussion with your classmates (or in a paragraph or two), describe your habits of revision. Explore questions such as the following:

  • Do you revise as you write, or do you prefer to wait until you have a full draft?
  • How willing are you to make big changes in a draft?
  • Have you ever been embarrassed or hurt by what seemed like minor errors?
  • Do you know your specific areas of weakness, and how do you address them?
  • Do you allow yourself enough time to give your projects a close second look? Should you?
  • Have you ever had a surprising success with a paper you wrote at the last minute and turned in almost unrevised?
