Anderson Cooper of CNN reported on a teacher in North Carolina suspended without pay for two weeks for writing “Loser” on a sixth-grader’s papers. Apparently the student wasn’t offended because the teacher was known to be a “jokester,” but administrators were. Did they overreact with the suspension (without pay), or should teachers and editors show discretion when commenting on something as personal as writing? Is there any room for sarcasm when peer editing? Make the case, one way or the other, in an exploratory paragraph.
