PRODUCT REVIEW

Shortly after the debut of the 2013 summer film Monsters University, Eric Brown spent some time reviewing a promotional Web site Disney/Pixar posted for the imaginary school, a dead–ringer for real college and university home pages. (You can find it online by searching “Monsters University.”) We reproduce Brown’s essay from The Chronicle of Higher Education here. In it, Brown argues that there’s a lot to admire about Disney/Pixar’s make-believe college site, which itself functions as a special subgenre of evaluation.

Reading the Genre

After reading Eric Hoover’s “Monsters U.’s Site Just Might Give You ‘Web-Site Envy’” and perusing the MU Web site itself online, examine the home page of your current school or employer and discuss its strengths and weaknesses with colleagues.
