Execution of Witches in England
No one knows exactly how many people were executed as a result of the tens of thousands of witchcraft trials held across Europe and North America, but the number seems most likely to be around 50,000. By far the highest number were executed in the Holy Roman Empire; in Britain and North America there were 1,500 to 2,000 executions. As this colored etching shows, most of the victims were women.
