Use of a plasmid vector, pUC18
The plasmid vector pUC18 has been designed for use as a vector for DNA cloning. Insertion of DNA into pUC18 is detected by inactivation of the β-galactosidase function of lacZ, resulting in an inability to convert the artificial substrate X-gal into a blue dye. The polylinker has several alternative restriction sites into which donor DNA can be inserted.
