Studying protein interactions with the use of the yeast two-hybrid system
The system uses the binding of two proteins, a “bait” protein and a “target” protein, to restore the function of the Gal4 protein, which activates a reporter gene. Cam, Trp, and Leu are components of the selection systems for moving the plasmids around between cells. The reporter gene is lacZ, which resides on a yeast chromosome (shown in blue).
