The cartoon below appeared in the New York World in 1897 as a comment on violence in football. It was reprinted in the New Yorker in 2011, accompanying an article by Ben McGrath entitled “Does Football Have a Future?” It is subtitled “The NFL and the Concussion Crisis.”
