Title for Slide

Neurons in the visual cortex have their own visual receptive fields. Instead of responding to points of light, however, they respond optimally to bars of light of different orientations falling on the retina and, in some cases, to movement of those bars of light in different directions.

INSTRUCTIONS

Find a cell: Drag the electrode and place it in the visual cortex. The selected neuron responds optimally to a bar of light oriented at a particular angle, given numerically at the right.
Change stimulus: To experiment with different angles, used the control bar at the bottom right of the screen to rotate the light. Also, to see how moving the bar of light affects the response of the cortical neuron, click the Movement switch to ON or OFF.
Repeat the experiment. To repeat the experiment, move the electrode to another location in the visual cortex.

Optimal angle: 0
