2 | The High Renaissance Style

Around 1500 a new style emerged for Masses, motets, and chansons that would hold sway for much of the sixteenth century. The chief characteristic of this High Renaissance musical style was a careful blend of two kinds of musical texture, imitative counterpoint and homophony (see pages 29–30).
