Purpose
To make and name as many ionic compounds as possible.
Materials
Salty Eights cards
Instructions
Deal eight cards to each player and place the rest in a draw pile. On your turn, you must put down an ionic compound or a noble gas. If you cannot put one down, draw cards until you can. Play until one player has used all of his or her cards.
Keep score with a data table like this one. Point values are on the Rules card. List your compounds in the table. Write the metal first and the nonmetal second. If you use more than one atom of an element, don’t forget to put the right number in the formula (for example, write Li2S for lithium sulfide).
Bonus Question Determine the compound with the highest point value you could make with the cards. Name that compound.
