Labour Says He’s Black. Tories Say He’s British. 1978

With this poster, the Conservatives sought to counter the notion that their positions and appeal had racist undertones, at the same time as the party reached out to Britain’s racial minorities. The poster was an attempt to turn the tables on Labour, to imply that it was Labour’s policies, not the Conservatives’, that perpetuated racial division, and that it was the Conservatives, not Labour, who were the true champions of racial equality.
