Even Labour’s Better with the Tories, 1978

Conservatives ran against the welfare state and in favor of the privatization of many aspects of government activity. Nonetheless, they could not ignore the fact that the vast majority of the British public supported key social welfare programs. Thus this poster did not directly challenge universal access to national health care. Instead, it made the claim that Conservative policies had increased the quality and efficiency of the national health-care system, focusing voters’ attention on policy outcomes, rather than on the policies themselves.
