Mothers in the Fatherland Nazi ideologues promoted strictly defined gender roles for men and women, and the Nazi state implemented a variety of social programs to encourage “racially correct” women to stay home and raise “Aryan” children. This colorful poster portrays the joy of motherhood and calls for donations to the Mother and Child division of the National Socialist People’s Welfare office. A woman who had four children was awarded the bronze Cross of Honor for the German Mother (left). The medal came with a letter of appreciation signed by Hitler.
